Here are some images of our stand from the last edition of the Hábitat furniture fair in Valencia. In this space, designed by Ibon Arrizabalaga and organized into three distinct atmospheres, we presented our latest news. A big thank you to B.Lux for their collaboration in lighting the stand.

In Treku, we have been wanting to create a Showroom in San Sebastian for a long time; a place to meet our friends, distributors, and various professionals in the industry. Finally, we have achieved it.
This April, we inaugurated the showroom, where the challenge has been to convey Treku’s warm and elegant identity in a space with an industrial touch. For this, we have used materials we identify with, such as oak wood walls and walls painted in our Indian color, as well as solid wood flooring in one part of the space. In some areas of the showroom, the brick has been left visible, so as not to lose the building’s personality.

Another important aspect of the project has been the lighting, where a careful and warm artificial lighting is combined with the natural light that enters in abundance through the large windows that surround the showroom. These large windows allow you to see the trees surrounding the building, which is particularly beautiful now in spring. When you are visiting the showroom, it seems like you are immersed in a forest, when in reality the building is located in a business park.
The space design has been carried out by Ibon Arrizabalaga with the collaboration of Ander Lizaso and Jean Louis Iratzoki, and the construction management by architect Ignacio Barayazarra.
To those of you who visit us, we encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the city of San Sebastian, known for its beauty and incredible cuisine. It is also worth visiting the Chillida Museum or even the Guggenheim Museum in the city of Bilbao, which is 100 km away.

In 2016, after working together for several years, Jean Louis Iratzoki and Ander Lizaso created the Iratzoki Lizaso studio which specialises in several areas of industrial design: home and office furniture, lighting and ephemeral architecture. The Kutxa collection is their latest contribution to Treku.

El proceso de diseño de la colección Kutxa ha sido largo y sostenido en el tiempo. Cuando la idea surgió en nuestro estudio se la transmitimos a Treku. El diálogo con ellos es muy fluido y muy abierto, siempre lo ha sido, por lo que, con el paso de los años, hemos ido afinando el concepto inicial de Kutxa hasta llegar al producto final.
Todas las piezas que componen la colección Kutxa tienen un toque escultórico pero sin referencias directas a artistas o a sus obras. La idea es que estos muebles contribuyan a crear espacios más sosegados y cuidados, antes que una optimización del espacio de almacenaje. Nos apetecía crear una colección de muebles con diferentes figuras donde cada pieza tenía personalidad propia y cumplía una función dentro de una lógica gráfica.
Todo nace de un dibujo surgido de manera inesperada. En aquel esbozo ya se advertía la idea de una caja suspendida dentro de una estructura muy sencilla y arquitectónica. También estaba presente el juego de contrastes, entre la contundencia de la madera y la gracilidad del metal. No recuerdo en qué año sucedió todo pero todavía conservamos aquel esbozo.

La colección Kutxa es, ante todo, un juego de contrastes: unas estructuras muy finas y esbeltas que contrastan con una caja muy voluminosa de madera que levita. La idea inicial era un juego de volúmenes más simple a la que hemos ido añadiendo los pequeños detalles que se pueden apreciar en la actualidad (los tiradores de cuero de las cajoneras, por ejemplo) que hacen el producto más cálido y cercano para el usuario.
Sólo cuando el producto ha estado maduro, lo hemos presentado. Hay marcas que trabajan con un objetivo de fechas muy concreto. En nuestra relación con Treku no ocurre así, los ritmos son más orgánicos.
En Iratzoki & Lizaso cada uno tenemos una pieza favorita porque la imaginamos en una parte diferente de nuestras casas. A Ander le gusta más la kutxa alta y voluminosa y a Jean Louis le casa mejor el escritorio.
Todos los muebles son piezas complementarias con un mismo hilo conductor aunque, tipológicamente, sean bastante diversas: dos mesas de café de diferentes tamaños, un escritorio y una cómoda muy versátil que puede enmarcarse en muchos espacios.

La intuición siempre tiene que estar presente en la creación de un mueble. Y la intuición es lo que más se erosiona a medida que se gana experiencia. Por eso es interesante situarse, de vez en cuando, en escenarios creativamente vulnerables que hagan que esa intuición despierte de nuevo.
A medida que consigues objetivos y logras una comodidad puede haber una merma de ilusión, se puede perder el hambre de nuevas ideas. Por ello, siempre es interesante colocarse en situaciones menos cómodas.

Clerkenwell. A London district with a rich history of trade, commerce and social life since the 12th century and now the leading design district in the UK, if not perhaps the world. It is home to more creative businesses and architects per square mile than perhaps anywhere else around the world, making it one of the most important global design hubs.
It is here that architects and interior design professionals conceive their ideas and inspiration for projects across all continents of our planet, from London to Los Angeles to Singapore and onwards. London’s reach is truly global.
To celebrate this rich and diverse community, Clerkenwell Design Week is a 3-day design festival which allows both companies and designers to participate in a series of showroom events, exhibitions and special installations that take place across the Clerkenwell area.
This year, for the first time, Treku participated in Clerkenwell Design Week as part of Basque Living London and their recently opened Showroom space.
Basque Living is a collaboration of 8 manufacturing companies based in Spain’s Basque Country who have created an inspiring space where tailored solutions are developed to suit professionals’ needs. This collaborative environment offers each company a great opportunity to find great project partners.
During the Clerkenwell Design Week, the Basque Living showroom hosted a variety of events which allowed all of the companies to showcase both their unique products as well as to communicate the Basque region’s unique culture, allowing us to welcome design professionals and give them a fresh way of understanding Basque design.
Treku were delighted to collaborate with Riya Patel, a leading design writer and curator, who hosted a conversation with Clara del Portillo from leading Spanish Design Studio Yonoh. During this conversation, Clara took us through the process of how Yonoh were inspired to create different furniture collections for both Ondarreta and Treku.
To say that Treku is 75 years old is a factual piece of information, but for us, it makes us realise how far we have come… and we are obviously very proud of that!
The past years have seen a variety of situations. Often joyful, sometimes sad, sometimes amusing or even comical. There is no shortage of anecdotes and we could even imagine making a film about it. One of them is a story we like to tell: the unexpected appearance of a cow in the middle of our factory during a customer visit! Cow had escaped from a nearby meadow and was completely lost, and had come to our workshop. It is easy to imagine the amazement of our visitors present that day!
At 75, we also look back and realise the incredible developments and changes that our societies have undergone: we have seen the birth of television, computers, mobile phones and of course, the internet!
Treku was created in 1947 at a time of European reconstruction and cultural, social and economic transformation. The founder, Jesus Aldabaldetreku, decided to open his carpentry business in Zarautz, a coastal town known since the 16th century for its great naval tradition and with a great knowledge of woodworking. Today, we continue to design and manufacture our furniture from the same location to all corners of the globe.
In this special year, we have one wish, and that is to have the pleasure of meeting you. There should be no shortage of opportunities, whether at a trade fair, a one-off event or in our future showroom in Donostia (San Sebastian). We will be able to share projects, illusions or questions that have been driving us and uniting us for so long.
You, who have trusted us for so long.
